   Worship styles at St. Denys

The most striking point of worship at St. Denys is that irrespective of time or type of service there is a warmth and friendliness that is reflected within the services.

We hold three services on a Sunday.

At 8.00am (on the 1st Sunday of the month only) we have a quiet Communion Service with sermon but no hymns. We use the traditional form, known as the Book of Common Prayer (BCP).

Our main Sunday service is at 10am and our Junior Church also meets at this time, usually joining us for the last part of the service and sharing with us the work they have been doing. We use Common Worship Order 1 and on the 4th Sunday we make this more informal with a nave altar.

The first Sunday we have a 'Worship for All' service led by a worship team and within it we will have drama, readings, prayers and sometimes a powerpoint presentation.

Bi-monthly, the third Sunday 10am service takes the form of Morning Worship, led by a team of lay people, sometimes with a speaker from a charity or other organisation. The children stay in for the first 10 minutes and then go to their Junior Church groups.

On the fifth Sunday we usually have a united service with St Philip's Church, Evington Road or St Peter's Church, Highfields.

At 6.00pm we have a  traditional evening service (Evensong) but on alternate 3rd Sundays we have a Communion with healing ministry.

There is a regular mid-week, well attended but quiet and reflective Communion Service on Thursday at 9.30am.  Prayers of healing are included on the 4th Thursday.  On the other days short (20 minutes) morning prayers are said at 9.00am.

Festival services are well supported, especially those by candlelight so Advent and Christmas are highlights in our church year. The Christingle and Crib Services are also very popular.

To sum up, worship is the backbone of our life at St. Denys and on the right occasions there is due solemnity but on the other occasions there is a sense of joy and fellowship.
